Every Wednesday, students go to the school
library. Usually they choose a book they want to read and check out the
book. There is a library media specialist to answer students' questions
such as how to find a certain book that has information they want to know. On
the week 2 as a library activity, library media specialist prepared the
scavenger hunt for students. It contained useful books that are related to the
other subject students are learning in the general classroom. As they find what
they want, they could be able to learn how to get resources in the library. It
was a useful lesson for students since it is important to be a skilled consumer
of information.
I am happy to hear that the librarian is still doing fun activities with the class. Most of the time, they will do scavenger hunts at the beginning of the year so the students can get to know the library. It is nice that she had them finding books that relate to things they are learning about in the classroom. Teaches students how we can make connections to different parts of our lives!
ReplyDeleteI wish the librarians at my school got as involved as it sounds like yours does. Our students each have their own individual library cards, which I think is great because it gives them responsibility over their card, and they get to check out two books at a time and get library time to look at books on Fridays. However, when they go to check out, the librarians are almost always just sitting chatting and don't bother to help the students when they try to ask questions and it ends up being their regular teacher who has to balance everyone trying to come to her for questions instead since the librarians are not much help. It sounds like you've got some great librarians in your school!
